Your Committee The committee for this year is John Hewitson Chairperson, Erica Wyatt Secretary, John Brown Treasurer, Cecily Archer, Gary Drake, Liz Duncan, Sue Fergusson, Helen Hewitson, Lindis Taylor, Lesley Anne Walker, Joe Wilson.

Obituary Graham Hassell passed away recently. Graham was a committee member for many years and convened the works subcommittee. His latest project was the boat ramp which was completed just before Christmas. Graham will be sorely missed and sincere sympathy is extended to Maureen and the family.

Boat Ramp There have been some enquiries as to the barrier that has been erected on the ramp. This was a condition of the consent required by the Regional Council mainly to stop traffic from inadvertently driving into the stream.

Security There have been a few instances of theft recently. Please be vigilant about security and do let your neighbours and members of the committee know of anything suspicious. It was only through several people reporting what seemed like trivial matters that action could be taken over the last incidents.

NZ Wise This land off Strathnaver Drive has been sold. The new owners who are local, have no plans to subdivide in the near future.

Waikawa Lakes There has been no further development in the consent process.

Rate Increase You will have received in the mail information regarding the massive increase in the rates payable to HDC.
This is due to the proposed changes to the rating system whereby the differential rating will be removed. This will mean a decrease in urban rates and a substantial increase in rural ratings. The increases will continue at significant levels for five years. Do not forget that rural properties also pay a sizeable amount to Horizons for Regional rates. There was widespread opposition to the proposed increases at the meeting at Manakau on Tuesday. The Association is currently drafting a submission opposing the changes. I earnestly suggest you do the same, using the form supplied with the information pack. Or simply write stating your views.

Water Along with the rates information you received a pamphlet setting out options for a reticulated water system for Waikawa. To qualify for the subsidy from the government, a community must apply and work through the options. Please read this carefully and let me know your views, or contact HDC. I would appreciate a copy of any response you may make to Council.

Working Bee The Council plans to upgrade the Hank Edwards Reserve with plantings and more seating areas. To facilitate this a working bee will be held at the Reserve on Saturday 29 May 9am. Please endeavour to give an hour of two of your time. A plan of the reserve showing the improvements will be posted on the notice board and on our website.

Web site The web site is kept updated regularly. If you have news or an item you would like posted on the web site send to waikawabeach@gmail.com
