Rubbish Collections

As usual wheelie bins are available over the holidays for a four weekly period from Levin Container Rubbish — phone 06 3682438 Cost $32 for four weeks. Bags are still available for collection on Mondays.

HDC Proposed Plan Changes 20 and 21

The hearings for both plan changes were held in August. The Commissioners are deliberating on matters raised by submitters and the Reporting Planner. The Commissioners will make recommendations back to Council, who will then issue the final decision. This decision will be available on the HDC website www.horowhenua.govt.nz

Horowhenua District Council Long Term Plan

The Association presented a submission against the removal of the rating differential and the consequent increase in the rates. In spite of the large number of submissions opposed to the increase, the plan was adopted by Council and the differential will be phased out over a ten year period. During the submission period it was brought to our attention that many ratepayers do not have a vote in the Council elections as they are not on the roll. Attached to this newsletter is a form that will allow you to have your say in next year’s elections.

Reticulated Water Supply

You will have read that the Council investigated the possibility of reticulated supplies to the communities that rely on tank and bore water. There appears to be quite strong opposition to having such a system at Waikawa and the Association informed the Council of this during the Long Term Plan submissions. At this stage there have been no further discussions with the Council.

Waikawa Lakes

The Pritchard Group have withdrawn their application to develop this area. A huge thank you to all those who assisted with the Association’s submission and to those who put in their own submission.

If you click on links there is a weather station which will give you hourly updates on Waikawa weather.

Community Constable

The beach communities now have a police officer who will make frequent visits to the area over the summer. Constable Ian Hamblyn 06 366 0500 should you need to report anything untoward.

Hank Edward Reserve

The Reserve looks very smart and hopefully the plants that suffered frost damage will recover. Thank you to all those who helped with the planting. It was a great turnout.

The only thing left is the painting of the toilet block. This will be done with a working bee Saturday Labour weekend at 9am. Please bring a stepladder if you have one. While we have rollers and brushes it would be helpful if you can bring your own. The Council has given the Association a grant and supplied all the materials.

A bbq lunch will follow, supplied by the Association.

This form is to be used for every application for enrolment as a ratepayer elector and for every nomination for enrolment as a ratepayer elector. Persons who may be
