Check our river flow and height

The Waikawa Stream at the footbridge is fed by two sources: streams that start life at North and South Manakau.

Did you know that Horizons Regional Council provide river level and flow monitoring data online?

On the Home page look for the Check Environmental data in your area section and make selections from the drop-down menus:

  • Rivers: Flow: Waikawa at North Manakau Road
  • Rivers: River Level: Waikawa at North Manakau Road
  • Rivers: Flow: Manakau at S. H. 1 Bridge
  • Rivers: River Level: Manakau at S. H. 1 Bridge

Click the Show Data button to be taken to a chart that allows you to select the time period to show, such as Last 7 days. You can also export the data as a picture or PDF.

We can see from the charts here that 3 and 4 November 2018 was a period of high flow.

That’ll be why moments after high tide on the morning of Monday, 05 November 2018 the outlook from the vehicle access point was water, water, everywhere. In the photos below we’re looking North, West, and South.
