Road sealing nearby 17 to 19 January 2021

Beware chip seal roadworks overnight around Manakau and Kuku 17 to 19 January 2021.

Fulton Hogan advised us about upcoming chip sealing along SH1 that affects Waikawa Beach. Stick to the 30 Kph speed limit so your car doesn’t tear the seal up again.

Update 17-Jan-21: this has been postponed.

The attached PDF includes the following:

Chipseal areas SH1 January 2021.

Chipseal works on State Highway 1

Manakau: Sunday 17 January 7pm-5.30am and Monday 18 January 7pm-5.30am

Kuku: Tuesday 19 January 7pm-5.30am

Chipseal: Two coats of chipseal will be laid for durability and flexibility on this busy section of highway. Please note that new seal continues to settle over a few months to a smoother, quieter surface than when first laid.

Night works: We work at night on busy roads when there are fewer vehicles so we can complete the job safely, quickly and efficiently without causing major disruption to traffic and people’s daytime schedules.

Traffic management: Our traffic supervisors will manage the flow of vehicles with stop/go controls. A temporary 30km/h speed limit will apply during the works and the next day, rising to 70km/h and then to the normal speed limit as the seal beds in and the road is swept and line-marked.

Postponement: Roadworks may be postponed due to rain or unforeseen factors that disrupt our weekly schedule. To check, visit: journeys.nzta.govt.nz/wellington/road-works.

Impact on neighbours: While we aim to work with as little disruption as possible, we know roadworks can be inconvenient. The crew will keep noise to a minimum as much as possible. However, machinery is unavoidably noisy at times and reversing beepers are a mandatory safety measure.

At times, work will take place outside driveways and intersections. Traffic supervisors will assist with access.

Thank you for your patience and understanding while these highway improvements are underway. Renewing the surface waterproofs the road, prevents potholes and provides skid-resistance so road users can enjoy a safer, smoother and more comfortable ride.

The email read:

Please see attached a notice about chipsealing on State Highway 1 through Manakau currently scheduled for Sunday and Monday nights next week, weather permitting.

Please let your members know that there will be stop/go traffic control on the highway Sunday and Monday nights and a speed restriction day and night on the highway for a few days while the seal settles.

The attached notice also contains some graphics with advice on how to drive on freshly laid chipseal.
